A Caring Community Supports Ka’u

Community engagement is our biggest strength and greatest inspiration. Our community’s volunteerism and financial support have been remarkable over the years and continues with plans for future projects. Fundraising efforts by the Red Hats, Ka Lae Quilters and Ka’u Golf Group have transformed our emergency department.  Their efforts have supplemented the care we provide to purchase state-of-the-art equipment such as cardiac monitors, ventilators and special equipment for pediatric emergencies.  The Ka’u Hospital Charitable Foundation manages all monies raised and ensures that every penny goes toward projects that will improve patient care.

Members of O Ka’u Kakou volunteered their time and expertise to build a lanai so our long term care residents may enjoy the view, breathe the fresh air and be warmed by the sun. O Ka’u Kakou also partnered with us to raise funds for a wheelchair accessible van that takes our residents out on day trips to keep them connected to the community and bring them closer to the beauty of our countryside.  The Volcano Rotary had adopted our hospital for its service projects that involved painting many areas in the hospital and completely upgrading the appearance of the common area where our residents spend most of the day.

We have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the Ka’u Rural Health Community Association on a host of projects to empower and train the next generation of healthcare providers close to home. Our most recent venture features a collaboration with Hawaii Community College to bring a Licensed Practical Nurse training program to Pahala.
